Daily Structure

At The Hive we want to be different, and as a Mum I am passionate about flexible learning and not being totally rigid. However, its important we do have some sort of daily routine in place. Below I have listed a 'typical day'.

7.40am - 8.30am - All Children in the hall for breakfast together. Babies and smaller children will have a separate area but siblings and such are welcome to sit together.

8.30am  - Off to School. The school age children will head off for school. The remaining children will be able to have 'free play'.

9am - 10am - All children will now go off to their own area with their 'teacher'. Under 2's will go to the Baby Zone, 2/3/4 year olds will be in groups according to age and stage of development. During this time several 'structured' activities will take place (the staff will set up activities in which the children are free to play, enabling us to ensure we can offer new and exciting experiences each day), especially for the older ones. This may be centred around our current theme and may include Forest School activities, Allotment Visit, Bluebell Woods Visit.

10am-10.30am - Outdoor Play Activity. All children join together for outdoor play.

10.30am- Snack Time!

10.45 - 11.30 am - A further themed activity will be set up.

11.30am - 12.30pm Transition Period and Lunch. For those staying all day Lunch will be served. For those attending the morning session only, Free Play will commence until collection time and for those arriving to attend the afternoon session Free Play will start until 12.30pm.

12.30pm -1.30pm - All children will now go off to their own area with their 'teacher'.

1.30pm - 2pm - Outdoor Play Activity. All children join together for outdoor play.

2pm- Snack Time!

2pm - 3pm A further themed activity will be set up.

3pm-6pm Afternoon only children will go home, those staying all day will be able to 'Free Play' with various activities set up both indoors and outdoors.

You will note that I haven't structured in a sleep time for the smaller children. We have a dedicated 'Sleep and Quiet Zone' where children and babies can have their naps around their usual home routine. Having 4 children myself I am very aware that many children can not 'sleep on demand' and therefore I felt it was important to provide an area where children can rest and sleep as they would usually do at home.

I should also add in that as we are aiming for Forest Nursery status many of our activities will be outdoor based. We ask that all children have an outdoor suit and wellies in their bags daily.
